The angina wipes out rational thought, so not conducive to creativity. But thanks for the suggestion. I tend to go with the flow in life then share whatever bubbles to the top of my mind. By the way, I had another P word I meant to include. Remember Profumo? What a scandal that was but resolved with the appropriate resignation. Times have changed, eh?
So you can hear with hearing aids? That’s great. I use them but they are practically useless and I got a top of the line pair. My Audiologist says I have ‘profound hearing loss’. I’m looking for
information from people who are as deaf as me and wonder how they manage. There’s not a lot out there.
Thank you so much for your expertise on property lines, Katharine.
Katharine with an a. I enjoyed your letter this morning with the P words. From the cartoons of youth my intro to pusillanimous came before the word polecat. Never having looked up either word I assumed it meant mean and contrary skunk, not cowardly or timid. My dog Artemis is pusillanimous.
I was born in 1945 and am about 80% deaf, maybe more. Deafness persuaded me to find ways to entertain and occupy myself. So that’s my greatest gift, the ability to fully enjoy my alone time.
I’ve been called a Pollyanna more times than I can count, and with good reason. Since I was a baby I knew everything is always exactly the way it’s supposed to be even if I don’t understand it. Every birthday wish when it was time to blow out the candles was always the same: that everything should keep being the way it will be without my interference. But always with an eye to be kind, encouraging, and helpful if I can.
I love nature and all it’s creations.
I pretty much hate mosquitos though but figure there’s a reason beyond my comprehension that they exist - maybe just to teach me tolerance and how to manage frustration.
I wish you acceptance and fortitude in dealing with the physical stuff. Sounds like you already have those and more.
The description of your work is interesting. You may know the answer to this question. Is it possible to steal property by moving property lines in the documents on file with the city/county? Is that a thing?
Is it hard to maneuver in the world with the drawbacks relating to deafness? What is the biggest challenge to you in that regard?
For me it’s that 95% of the people I encounter do not change their everyday speech patterns for me even if I ask them to. Even if I ask twice. Maybe they do but I just don’t know it.
Hey Susan, I was wearing hearing aids from my audiologist. But during the pandemic and mask wearing I flipped them off and lost the good ones. I replaced them with an affordable internet pair I use when needed.
As for changing property lines, it could be done legally with an exchange or sale of land between neighbors with new maps drawn and filed after a thorough search of each parcel. But proper deeds would have to be prepared and executed according to law (requiring notice to abutters). A good real estate attorney should be used to accomplish anything involving boundaries. Theoretically it shouldn’t be possible to “steal” land; but false documents could be recorded which is why a title search is performed whenever a parcel is mortgaged or when it changes hands. And I have to always give the caveat that I am not a lawyer!

Best wishes for becoming a grandmother. What a gift for you both.
Hello old friend!

When you experienced angina did you create an interesting list of "A" words? Creativity can come from being reminded of our mortality. Stay healthy !
Hello Oldandintheway, I know you from other Substacks. Your handle is unforgettable and made me laugh out loud the first time I saw it.
