The type of Afib with which I have been diagnosed is known as Paroxysmal, meaning it happens wherever it feels like it and then reverts to normal as it sees fit. So uncertainty is the name of the game, and nothing I do seems to affect it. Sometimes I just keep on going although it depends on many other factors. But the other night I woke up for my usual midnight-ish snack and was struck with a rather nasty bout of Afib while lying in bed. I shared before about the angina, but that’s a different issue. There’s nothing to be done to ameliorate the Afib while it is fibbing. I take a wonder drug twice daily to help prevent the blood clots that could be dangerous, but other than that I go about my usual relatively healthy eating and exercising life. But I do love the word paroxysmal, and it led me to thinking this morning about other words I enjoy which start with the letter P.
Punctilious: Showing great attention to detail. There’s some negativity about the word in terms of requiring correct behavior but that’s not the meaning I’m using here. As a Title Searcher for many years before and after computers, I am paid for paying microscopic attention to detail. Unraveling the chain of title for a specific parcel with many conveyances and multiple owners can be very rewarding. [Note to local newspaper: Recent letter to the editor cited CBN as a news source which I believe should have been identified as The Christian Broadcasting Network because many readers may have been skimming and thought the writer was citing CNN. I was always taught that the first use of an acronym must be defined.] But this leads me to another P word—
Patience (a virtue seldom found): I have in my career handled some extremely complex commercial searches and delighted in presenting the end result to my client with a clear chain of title and list of encumbrances. However, when there is specific intent to obfuscate and avoid detection by criminally minded owners across multiple areas of jurisdiction, the work becomes increasingly challenging. For fun I have been known to attempt to search the holdings of certain political figures. Which leads me to my next P word—
Pusillanimous: Showing a lack of courage or determination; timid. This is a wonderful word to apply to so many people nowadays that it’s hard to choose the most perfect example. You be the judge. I’ll end this rather odd posting with a word that’s been applied to me:
Pollyanna as a Pejorative. It’s easy to research the many ways that a sunny outlook on life has been denigrated. It just seems to me that moaning and groaning do little to improve things if we allow the sadness to immobilize us. Keep on keeping on . . .
The angina wipes out rational thought, so not conducive to creativity. But thanks for the suggestion. I tend to go with the flow in life then share whatever bubbles to the top of my mind. By the way, I had another P word I meant to include. Remember Profumo? What a scandal that was but resolved with the appropriate resignation. Times have changed, eh?
So you can hear with hearing aids? That’s great. I use them but they are practically useless and I got a top of the line pair. My Audiologist says I have ‘profound hearing loss’. I’m looking for
information from people who are as deaf as me and wonder how they manage. There’s not a lot out there.
Thank you so much for your expertise on property lines, Katharine.
