The Republicans Party has been working on breaking the Constitution for years. Trump, a con man, a liar, and a bully showed it could be easily done. Many of us have been shocked by how many Americans are fine with ending our democracy. But Trump is an old buffoon and his act has gotten worse. There is a good chance he will lose the election. We had hoped that if he loses MAGA would crash and burn. But it has become clear that win or lose MAGA will still be a driving force pushing to destroy American government. It is now Vance, Thiel, Musk and other billionaires who want to buy the government and take it private. IF, IF Harris wins this election her biggest task will be to push back the corruption that has invaded every level of our government, especially the courts.

Yes, indeed. I’m just reading my local paper and there’s a story about the prosecution of the January 6th rioters with judges and prosecutors voicing the fear that the defendants plan to break the law again.

“ There is a good chance he will lose the election.”

I’ll believe it when I see it.

You state that we could have had a first female president if not for the Electoral College. True, however, IMO the bigger issues were chauvinistic men and women who loathe strong women.

Great post, Katharine. As a practicing Catholic, I have wept tears of sorrow, bordering on despair, for my church. Even as a Catholic I don’t believe that The Church should not be criticized. As a matter of fact, the Catholic Church is run by men, and God knows, as we all know, that men are flawed and can and do commit sometimes egregious errors. I agree with you and am beyond appalled at the notion that there are Catholic priests, bishops, cardinals, and some very prominent and influential lay persons who support Donald Trump. For what it’s worth, I believe that the clergy should stay out of politics, and if they can’t or won’t, then they should be taxed. As you can imagine, this position does not endear me to the clergy, but, if my Prime Minister or my President don’t get to tell me how to pray, neither does my priest get to tell me how to vote. What do you think?

Great ideas, Irma. Absolutely unbelievable that we have come to this state of interference by the religious zealots—separation of church and state is a bedrock of democracy.

Brilliant. I'm sure that few of the ionies were lost. . . . The Catholic Church lauding and promoting someone who debases American and religious values. Who literally spews and commits profanities. And literally settling a case for tolerating heinous behavior. Towards children! Are minds so segmented that they see sunshine and ignore the thunder, lightning and floods during of a Cat 5 hurricane?
