Hi Katherine. I would ask the vet. We had a dog Sam. Kids named her Sam after the Samantha on Bewitched because Darrin always called her Sam. When we divorced my ex said she was taking Sam to the pound. I said I would take the dog because the our three girls grew up with the dog. Sam lived 13 years. I was going to take her to the vet the day she died. I always feel bad because she died alone. I came home from work and she was on kitchen floor dead. I buried her out under the tree she would lay under in the spring. God did I get attached to that dog. Took her in the car everywhere. She was usually good about staying in the back seat but sometimes when I ran into a store she would be in the front seat pretending to drive. 🥲
The vet will likely cite some local ordinance regarding pet burial and then tell you they didn’t clearly hear your question, but there’s no need to repeat it. Wink-wink, nod-nod. Many a cat or small dog have been placed in a shoe box, cardboard box, or burlap bag, placed in the yard where the container and remains slowly return to nature. Several feet deep, large rocks on top, enough to keep digging animals, usually coyotes away or quickly losing interest.
Over the years I/we have taken one dog and two cats in to a vet, knowing it was their last car trip, had four cats euthanized at home, with one of them wink-wink, nod-nod. Full disclosure, I live with a veterinarian. Wink-wink, nod-nod.
Forgot to mention, I have never seen on one of those no return trips, nor my wife when she was in private practice, someone this grab the bag like they were taking out the garbage. It’s always been an act of kindness with upmost respect and dignity.

I'm so sorry Katharine. I am dealing with the same... Daughter moved out & left me her cat who is now my baby and failing. What a world.

More will be revealed tomorrow. Thanks for writing.
Thanks, Mcdude. I will probably call the vet’s office tomorrow for advice. We do get attached to our critters don’t we.
My beloved dogs are all now in heaven and in my heart always! Always!
