I’m definitely a morning person, and 4 a.m. is my usual awakening lately. Of course, since I go to bed before 8 p.m. that seems reasonable. And I do not use sleep aids nor alarm clocks because quite frankly my life is my own to run as I see fit and my body lets me know what’s right.
The first thing I began thinking about this morning as I was still in bed was that the title of today’s post would be KEEP IT SIMPLE, STUPID. I became aware of this when I worked for a Navy defense contractor four decades ago. I definitely welcome the idea that complex situations can be broken down into manageable pieces and it seems particularly germane today.
We must not lose sight of the simple fact that a dictatorial cabal has taken over the levers of power (looking at you Heritage Foundation and Federalist Society). It will be up to all the existing cogs to take a stand against the horrific actions being proposed by Executive Orders. Didn’t an earlier Republican administration once come up with that other famous aphorism, JUST SAY NO.
I am so thrilled to know that we have many extremely knowledgeable and talented people who could see this coming and have been preparing to thwart this takeover as quickly and decisively as possible. Law suits have already been filed and resistance organizations mobilized to keep the worst from happening. It really is no longer a matter of political differences—the Republican Party as we knew it no longer exists. And fear has become the watchword of the day. Not just fear of losing one’s position, but it seems to me the actual fear of bodily harm as well. The Mob has been resurrected here in our free and democratic society. Many people who post on Substack are old folks who recognize the danger and we are willing to put our lives on the line to stop the rise of fascism at the highest levels. That is the simple task at hand.
This morning I saw short clips from both Jamelle Bouie and Dixie Whitey with essentially the same message. I was almost tempted to try my own video to chime in, but honestly I don’t want to learn how to do it. In the interests of simplicity, my days are filled with reading in the morning and then listening to podcasts while I do needlework. I may even finally finish the beautiful flower basket design I started back in high school.
To end my musings on aphorisms this morning, I’ll leave you with the best one of all for getting through this vile man-made disaster: ODAT which stands for ONE DAY AT A TIME.
RESIST ALWAYS
TTFN (which is ta-ta for now in case you’re new here)
Good morning. You're right. We need to breathe. And not give up or in.
Jess Piper shows us ways to resist positively. She lives in Missouri where the people supported a pro-abortion measure. Her state senator has vowed to overturn the amendment. She sent him a short note. "We voted on Amendment 3 and it passed. If I can deal with a lazy, lying, cheating, felon traitor being my President, you can deal with the will of Missourians on abortion."
