I started to collect Social Security before I retired. I just had it deposit in an account that was not used for much else. I was 70 when I retired and my employer set me up with a Medicare Advantage plan from the company they were using for employee health insurance. And they added a little extra to help with maintenance meds obtained through their pharmacy. No issues so far....

Thanks, Don A. I’m interested to hear how others are managing. I’m glad I waited because I can actually live on my Social if necessary. Still getting work though which makes things better all around. And glad I hung on to this house through the years. Love being thrifty too!

While I was working for Enron, I foolishly had almost the entire 401K invested in company stock. The next job, I was able to choose the state employees retirement system and after almost 20 years was able to take out enough to pay off the mortgage and still receive a decent monthly payment.

I think you’re the only person I’ve heard of who worked at Enron. Interesting story. I’d never given much thought to what had happened to the employees. Glad you were able to recover.
