Thanks, Katharine. we are putting this on our list and hope to watch soon,
Religion, like politics, has leaders who use their platform for authoritarian power and control, and it is far from benevolent, more malevolent. I remember and use what Elie Wiesel said to a small group of us one evening, "If you want to know what evil is, put a face on it." Classic ongoing story of the battle between good and evil, the archetypal struggle throughout history, the good guys and the bad guys. Moral and ethical versus immoral and unethical....and on we go.
Two people whom I had the good fortune to meet and be able to thank them in person for their good work, and who had a lasting impact on me, were MLK, Jr in 1968 and Elie Wiesel in 1980. There were many others over many years, some of whom you would recognize and others who did not have a national and international presence. I wrote a post "MLK and ME" here on Substack that tells part of that story.
Katherine, I had not been planning to watch that movie. Not to bury my head in the sand, but I'm afraid I would find it too depressing. But I'm interested that you are planning to watch it a third time. Any suggestions for how to watch it without losing hope?
Okay. Third time gave me even more insight. I think it is really geared towards people who consider themselves Christian but do not approve of the direction the strident white nationalist people are taking. The footage of the January 6 insurrection is hard to watch but it shows how far removed from the idea of love this political movement has strayed. The question arises as to who is using whom (that a certain candidate was chosen by God is ludicrous). I was particularly saddened to see very young women celebrating themselves as “the post-Roe generation” with very little understanding of the malevolent forces behind this political maneuvering. So many moments stand out but in particular the speech given about a woman’s greatest achievement being to have a godly husband. 😱
That just might be too much for me - hits a little too close to home with some people in my husband's family. I'd probably end up yelling at the screen and getting all riled up. Thanks for reporting on this, Katherine, and taking one for the team! I appreciate knowing the details without having to see it myself!

Thank you, Gary. Imagine hearing those words from Elie Wiesel himself.

Thanks, Cherie. Glad to be of help because I’m very thankful to not be in that sort of situation.
I’ve actually been thinking a lot about it today as I get ready for the third trip. I’ll let you know later how it hits me this time.
