Continued Confessions
without any news updates
So far this morning, I have not even looked at my phone. The quiet reflection of the day is much better for me, and popping out to get my paper from the driveway was enough exercise and fresh air for the moment.
I will focus instead on what I can control which is the nourishment I put in my body (I follow pretty closely the anti-inflammatory diet recommended for my health) and what I occupy my mind with—I haven’t even learned the outcome of the first NBA finals game yet. My gentleman caller will update me on that I’m sure.
But I do want to share two quotes I saved recently from my daily calendar (thank you Page-A-Day editors). On Friday May 29, the quote is from Jim Carrey, Canadian and American actor; “Everybody should get rich and famous and everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that that’s not the answer.” Indeed!
And then this Tuesday, June 2, the quote is from Arthur Ashe, American tennis player: “True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.” A sobering thought in drunken times.
Meanwhile, I have been enjoying very much my latest afternoon teatime telly. PBS has a wonderful series entitled “Theodore Roosevelt” and I am learning an incredible amount of American history. [I know people have been raving about “Suffs” which is also filled with history, but I prefer my information without songs.] I realize that the only musical which I have ever really loved is Jesus Christ Super Star (which by the way is just completing a run at the Goodspeed Opera House here in Connecticut).
My before bedtime wind down is still “Call the Midwife” and I am always amazed at how many societal issues they cover. The episodes have now reached the early 70’s, and watching the moon landing was included in one. The loving and nonjudgmental care and concern provided by the midwives to women giving birth in some very challenging circumstances warms the cockles of my heart before I head off for bed at 7:30. It seems that I am still definitely an early to rise type in my dotage, although I was not such an early to bed person in bygone times. I remember with great pleasure going out dancing (particularly reggae night on Tuesday at the El ‘n Gee).
Enough about me, though. I know much of the population is riled by the current state of affairs being stirred by the despicable wanna-be dictator. Watching TR manage the many changes he encountered in his life and as President gives me hope that we, too, shall weather this storm. Power to the People!

Just curious: Does this anti-inflammatory diet steer you away from dairy products?
