Good for you. Speaking Truth is never ranting. The single issue voter, that votes against their own self interests and generally in doing such votes against the common good, all in the name of principle is showing their ignorance in how our political system works and the requirements of living in a democracy. When confronted with the fact, my experience has been they first respond with the classic deer in the headlights look and then dig a deeper hole explaining their position or with that “sit out this election” or third party protest vote logic. Third party protest vote only works with ranked choice voting, but the complexity of that would be way above the comprehension level of their pea brain.
Katharine, I think your political analysis is correct, and from what I remember from before I left America in 2001, what you say has always been the case. Serious religious people always seemed to vote R or not at all. I am not a statistical nerd on this topic (but I am on others), and my bet is there is nothing out of the ordinary going on now vs. a decade ago. Everything appears nutty now due to the reversal of Roe, IMO, and that was a BIG mistake, just for the insanity that's ensued, if for nothing else.
“Serious religious people always seemed to vote R or not at all.” Yup, that’s right (no pun intended). Every single one I know falls into that category. It’s like ‘D’ on a ballot stands for Devil.
Ha! Funny. In the past (distant), the D's were known for evil! And I am sure there are folks out there who still remember those days before the civil rights movement started, that's for sure. Perhaps not for LBJ, we would all be slaves still (wage or otherwise) in America.
Cartoon Journalist Based in Kathmandu Nepal. I’m honored. Having been there once, I still communicate with two people I met there. Himalayan guides, one of which runs a wonderful charity building and funding rural schools and sustainable home water purification and cooking fuel systems. Small world.
Ha, the world is not that small really, but there are a helluva lot of connections between things and us that we can't see until we do! Like right now. EYE AM honored that you replied and revealed yourself a bit. Tell your guides for me, "Namaste! Khana Khane Bhyo?" The Nepali people are trying so hard to pull themselves from the muck despite the rest of the world going to hell (or so it seems to me).
I think that when Trump says the court system is rigged, Black people can relate to that. Trump constantly tells people he has done great things for everyone, including Black people. Some of them seem to skip the fact that he has more praise for white supremacists.
Not a rant. Not at all. I enjoyed reading it.
