I have really been enjoying the Substack started by God not too long ago. The deity has a lot of good things to share. And I think we could all lighten up a bit about religion, don’t you? Of course, that’s coming from someone who wasn’t raised in a religious household and who gained what little knowledge she has from attending her friends’ churches or Sunday schools. She also went to that summer camp run by a religious organization (I think I’ve shared that before). Anyway, rather than take my word for anything about this subject, I would like to recommend a video that I was referred to which should be watched by everyone on Sunday. It is an actual sermon by a man who is becoming a preacher and it is available on YouTube. It is entitled “James Talarico Delivers Sermon Against Christian Nationalism” and is just under 20 minutes long. He is an amazing speaker, and he has the knowledge to back up his claims.
And now I will continue on a positive note because quite frankly I don’t think I can stand any more negativity today. I have also been quite busy with my work this week and fighting a losing battle with technology. So I prefer to focus on the fact that darling grandson is just starting to walk, and the sight of him exploring his world gives me great hope that we will all do everything in our power to make the place better for him and all the other children who are inheriting this wonderful planet. I could, of course, spend all day ranting about what’s wrong (don’t get me started again on proofreading the daily paper); but I think it best to relax and enjoy myself for the rest of the afternoon.
Lunch first, then perhaps some more solitaire on my phone! TTFN
Thanks, Katharine. I will have to check it out. There is also a powerful and scary documentary about Christian Nationalism called "Bad Faith."
I think the following sums much of it up rather well: Ghandi: "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians They are so unlike their Christ." There are some exceptions whom I have met, Bill Coffin, Henri Nowen, MLK, Jr. Dan and Phil Berrigan and others. Did not meet Thomas Merton but would include him among the stalwarts.
