Sadness is impossible to avoid. Recognize it for what it is. It is necessary and shouldn't frighten you. Dread, isn't helpful. Mumble the Serenity Prayer a few times, and try to move on. It takes practice.

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference”

Yes indeed. I am forever grateful to that previous husband who engineered my adoption of recovery as a mantra.

Yes, dread describes what many of us are feeling as the world teeters on imminent chaos. JTC

Wow. You track my feelings to a tea. I read you to see how I'm doing. Yes, sad to say, dread captures a lot. Will I be able to find a new home? In another state? Should I stay in a city I really love or find refuge in an easier city 1000 miles away? Such challenges. . . . I really need a nap.

Thank you Katharine for making me smile. It’s my first Christmas without my mom and dad, and it’s hard to feel festive.

Thank you so very much for showing me that there is a difference between fear and dread. Fear is now. Dread is in days to come.

As for flushing toilets... The new "low flush" unit upstairs doesn't care whether or not the handle is held down -- it only dispenses the same amount but it is at a faster velocity so it pushes everything down ahead of it. The 1st floor unit has had it's innards replaced so that it has 2 settings, handle up for half-flush and handle down for full. But because the flapper valve that opens to let the water down is able to deal with full or half, it does not need to be forced to stay open. Your unit must be somewhat older.

The foreboding. The dread. Katharine, we can offer a potion to make that go away, but nothing in my medicine chest fits that need exactly. I am left to ponder. Did the foreboding, those dreading, write their senators to deny or delay the nomination abominations? It comes to mind it is not possible to be foreboding while sticking a knife into those one dreads. Two senators in every state? Two knives! That works. https://hotbuttons.substack.com/p/nomination-abominations?r=3m1bs

Hey, Carl. Thanks for reposting the link for action to be taken. Of course many good people are resisting. And I hope you can tell that I’m not actually sitting around fretting. That is not my nature at all. My loved ones know that I actually have a hard time taking anything seriously. Enjoy yourself (and that wasn’t a pun on your last name which I just noticed). Keeping calm and carrying on.

Sorry, everyone. I gave the wrong reference for the Netflix documentary I’m watching. It is “Hitler’s Circle of Evil” which is a much more recent and factual work. (The other one exists but was a show with a cast of actors.)
