I was going to headline my post with Good Trouble Rises Up, but then I found out that the protest for Thursday has been named Good Trouble Lives On because the date of July 17th signifies the death in 2020 of the great civil rights leader John Lewis.
So my title this morning is instead a saying from the late great John Wachter, who loved my Mum exceedingly well for many years. For some reason, he had the habit of repeating his yes to be sure we got it. He was not a normally effusive man so that emphasis has stuck with me. I’m actually glad that neither he nor Mum can see the boorish behavior of our current Chief Executive.
And speaking of that, I was very pleased to read Andy Borowitz here on Substack this morning. He nails the latest cringeworthy international incident so be sure to read his post for today. Laughter once again helps immensely.
Meanwhile, I felt a little shaky this morning but when I took my reading Kardia said I was perfectly in rhythm so I set off on my walkies. By the way, I have been attempting to get rid of excess baggage and have been taking my hot lemon water out with me in one of the many random paper cups I have collected over the years,. Chagrined to realize that the one I used this morning—then discarded mind you—was from 2022 (which Starbucks kindly informed me with my name included). So now that cup has joined the rest of the waste we over-create in this country.
But back to my heart rhythm. I told you I know myself better than these machines, and sure enough by the time I was trudging up the hill home, I got extremely lightheaded and realized that I was indeed right. This time the app agreed with me. And while the temperature is still in the 60’s, the humidity is very oppressive in and of itself. So perhaps a day in the one room with an A/C will necessitate my watching more telly. I had a wonderful time rediscovering Jack Whitehall and his travels with his father. Very glad Netflix has decided to share it with me again, and I highly recommend it as a getaway for everyone. The first episode has them in Bangkok, Thailand, and it is a wonderful treat for an armchair traveler.
So of course you realize I have been avoiding the subjects about which we are all in a dither. There really is nothing I can add at this moment that will save democracy. I just hope that collectively we all can do it. My AARP magazine brought me very good news with the fact that I share this 80th birthday year with Helen Mirren and Rod Stewart—both still going strong and hangin’ tough. ON, ON!
