Loved this piece, Katharine! It is such a pleasure to read your posts, so positive and optimistic! A true ray of sunshine and more than a glimmer of hope.
At weeks short of 78, if anyone visits and admires something, either their name goes on the back or they walk out the door with it! Clearing out my folks home took me months and I don’t want that to be the case with me… so I’m using my birthday month to give away more and clean out my closet again!
Learned from someone who married and lived with a hoarder until she had to get out of it. When I went to visit two months after our first OMG purge, when I looked in her closet there were 4 pairs of jeans, 4-5 t shirts, 1 LBD, 3 pairs of shoes! I dream of that closet 🤣💖
Happy Birthday! Sounds like you had a good one. And it's hard to let go of things you love. But I've been more judicial in what I've been saving lately. Don't want my kids to HAVE to rent a dumpster after I'm gone, lol.
I know Laina. I really have curbed my acquiring (except for the mags) but honestly I think my daughter will have to do just that—or put a match to the place!
Speaking of clutter. While I did unload 5 bankers boxes of vinyl LPs dating as far back as my days in Junior High, I suspect that there is at least one box in the attic that was packed up when we left Illinois in 1983 and has followed us from western NY to central PA to another house in central PA to Houston and back to central PA. I can't even keep my (physical) desktop organized.
I knew we were kindred spirits, Don A. And again thanks for the push I needed to get the hearing aids. Yesterday’s do would have been different without them.

Thank you, Irma.
😀 thank YOU, Katharine for the pleasure of reading our post. It was precisely what I needed. 😊

Great idea, Mary. You sound like my friend Carol who is constantly discarding stuff.

Unfortunately I tend towards Imelda Marcos in the shoe department—I’ve definitely got the hoarding gene.
Oh let’s not go there 🤣🤣🤣 altho now it’s all sandals and hiking shoes.

Happy Birthday! This post was a treat - feels good to have some of the weight taken off our shoulders, doesn't it?
I found the votes in Britain and France pretty uplifting even before Kamala got us all the way to hopeful.
