OMG
an appropriate Sunday title
It doesn’t seem possible that we have come to this, but unfortunately we are now glorifying the age of the Crusades. Talk about being bombed back to the Stone Age. I am finding it increasingly difficult to maintain my usual Pollyanna persona, but as I keep remembering Sam-I-Am, I am what I am. [Just checked on line and find out that the title I am remembering is one of a lot of Dr Seuss books which are actually done by author Tish Rabe. More research for a later time.]
Meanwhile, here’s some uplifting things I noticed since my last post. Jack Schlossberg, a grandson of my beloved JF K, is running for Congress from NY12 which is central Manhattan as far as I can tell. His campaign website begins with the headline “Believe in Something Again” and includes a warning that “this is our last chance to stop” you know who.
And Amy Goodman, who has been an intrepid truth-telling journalist for many years, is the subject of a documentary called “Steal This Story, Please!” which I am looking forward to watching. The film is directed by Carl Deal and Tia Lessin and chronicles Amy and the founding of Democracy Now! her relentless fact-seeking organization. More information at stealthisstory.org with thanks to Robert Reich and Heather Lofthouse on their Saturday Coffee Klatch for featuring Amy this week.
So many wonderful creators are here on Substack that it is impossible to keep up with them all. And being still on edge about the delivery of my Social Security income, I am unable to add any further outgo of funds at this time. Therefore, any paywalls will limit my interaction with a site. I have a few stalwarts for whom I am paying on a monthly basis, and a few for which I may have once paid the annual fee but can no longer afford to renew. Getting two seemingly conflicting letters from Social Security recently has added to my quandary. Add to this my diminishing vision, and I truly have to dodder on day by day. Thank you to fellow Substackers OldDiva and Oldandintheway in particular this week for helping me see the bright side.

Katharine, I too have in the past received conflicting letters regarding SS payment amounts. One is usually sent from return address of my local SS office and the other from a regional SS processing center. I went onto original Medicare prior to claiming SS benefits and this was also around the time I dealt with some capital gains issues which could increase the Medicare Part B premium. As I recall I received one letter indicating a decrease in the net deposit amount after withheld taxes and withheld increased Part B premium and another letter indicating a slight increase because it was also at the beginning of the year COLA adjustment. You can go online to your SS account and probably find the most accurate and current information.
