ODAT, OMG, WTF
take your pick
It’s Sunday, and I must post to prove to myself that I am still alive. The acronyms I chose for my title reflect my bewilderment this morning. The first stands for One Day At a Time a mantra I learned years ago and have found most helpful. The second is more current and of course stands for Oh My God, and the last is one I actually use quite frequently with the emphasis on the last word (although it is beginning to lose its shock value these days).
Anyway, I started at sunrise drinking my hot lemon water, continuing to read Greg Stone’s history of The Day paper, and then rummaging through some papers. I found an email I had received back in the summer of 2013 (remember how quaint the service was back then—the letter kindly informed me that the sender was from my contact list). I have not taken the time to find out whether that sender is still on this earth, but the topic she was sharing was the following: FINDING A WAY OUT OF THE SPLIT-SCREEN LIFE by Arianna Huffington, August 21, 2013. I did try to research Arianna and found myself directed to the HuffPost on the internet. Suffice it to say, she has some marvelous insight into the relationship of money and power and well-being. The topic is about her Third Metric Campaign, and I would urge anyone who is interested to follow up on this article. And I just did a deeper dive and find that she is very much alive and has started Thrive Global on this very topic.
But in starting to research this morning, I turned to my trusty phone (which I usually try to avoid for a few hours on Sunday). And that’s when the OMG part was spoken aloud. Can you believe that Lindsay Graham has dropped dead at the young-to-me age of 71? I wonder if the prediction markets had the odds on that one?
Technology has brought us so many marvels, particularly in the medical field, but when the heart decides it has had enough, it can take you out in an instance. Remember Jim Fixx? That is why I am glad for the many people in my life who have reinforced my ability to live it one day at a time, share lots of love and laughter, and join me in giving thanks for every sunrise.
RESIST ALWAYS

Agreed about WTF losing its meaning. FFS has taken its place for me.
I was just wondering about Arianna Huffington the other day—whatever happened to her and if she was even alive. (I’m still hearing of celebrity types who didn’t survive COVID.) She was huge in the independent media arena. Glad to know she’s still around.
As for Sen Graham, I’m reminded once again of Joanne Freeman’s repeated phrase, “we are living in an era of extreme contingency.”
No great loss for sure
