I had no idea about the rest of that saying when it first came to me in the middle of the night. I knew I had to change my routine today and get to the City (which is New York City for those elsewhere), so “Needs Must” is something I remember from my childhood. In searching for it online, I found the origin of the phrase dates back at least to Shakespeare, who used it a number of times. So it turns out to be rather appropriate to our current events.
Our “Hands Off” demonstration was very well attended, and I managed to holler for a short while, then turned the job over to the many young people who joined the protest. I have mentioned before that New London, Connecticut, is very old and the original courthouse has 1784 on its front. Previously, I told you about the Soldiers and Sailors monument as well. It was very fitting that we Colonists were shouting “No King” in this venerable setting.
Other demonstrations around the country were also crowded with ordinary Americans who are fed up with the autocratic sharp turn. Even some who may have voted for the regime are having second thoughts. One of my favorite signs was the F*ck Trump with the middle finger in place of the letter “U”— I saw this on a Granny in a wheelchair as well as on the coat of a little girl whose mother told me it is her daughter’s favorite phrase.
And now needs must that I get ready for my trip.
RESIST ALWAYS
TTFN
Approx. 20,000 here in Tucson, lining both sides of street for almost a mile. Constant stream of honking cars and thumbs up signs. Only a few bird flips. Of course by white men. However, group with close to half men.
Most disturbing was lack of younger people. Youth do not have the great musical artist like those of the sixties writing great protest songs. We need some great protest songs.
