Obviously the major news of the day has been covered quite extensively, and I was particularly informed by the BBC. I recommend their site at bbc.com for in-depth reporting by Gary O’Donoghue. And I’ll leave it at that because I have other issues I want to address.
I want to celebrate the life of Dr. Ruth Westheimer, who died on Friday at age 96. She is famous for her frank and enthusiastic discussions of sex, and I cherish her work in this field. She declared that sex was heavenly not something to be hidden as shameful. Thank you, Dr. Ruth, for your long and fruitful life, which is described vividly in your obituary in The Guardian. I must admit that technology has its highlights and being able to go back and watch you live your very public life is heartwarming. There is a wonderful video on ET (which I believe stands for Entertainment Tonight) which provides a montage of her public appearances.
And other celebrity deaths recently are of note: Richard Simmons of fitness fame and Shelley Duvall from “The Shining” both of whom were younger than I am, at 76 and 75 respectively. Again, there’s plenty of information available for those who wish more detail. And of course other deaths which you may also want to note.
All of which leads me back to the mantra that I adopted somewhat late in life but it has served me very well. One day at a time . . .
Yes, loved Dr. Ruth who worked tirelessly to free us of the beetles and worms of guilt and shame to celebrate the natural.
I'm trying hard to just think about today and not allow myself to attempt to predict what particular variety of crazy is coming down the pike.
