I would have been out for my morning walkies earlier, but as I set off I went into a rather nasty version of my paroxysmal Afib. So I sat in my lawn chairs (one for body and one for legs up) and enjoyed my garden for a while—and then the heavens opened up and I reveled in a natural shower before coming back in the house to rant about politics.
Yesterday was a fascinating day for a political junkie. My idea of a good way to spend my time is watching our governing bodies in action as I knit endlessly. I am thankful to the technology which allowed me to participate real time in the deliberations of the Senate Judiciary Committee as it held a hearing on the latest gobsmackingly awful nomination by the-words-escape-me President. He has had the utter gall to nominate his own private lawyer for a lifetime appointment as a Federal Judge on the Third District Court (with a possible eye to eventual elevation to the Supreme Court). This man, EMIL BOVE (who when finally asked said that his last name is pronounced BO-VEE) should not even be nominated as dogcatcher. The thought of him passing judgment on cases of great importance in one of the highest courts is ludicrous. His appearance before the Committee was reminiscent of the mob bosses invoking the Fifth. He “could not recall” many significant events of his recent life, which immediately leads me to suspect subterfuge.
The hearing was wrapped up quite smartly by the Republican chair who refused the Democrats request for a second round of questioning. From the repartee between the nominee and the right side Committee members, you could just hear the pre-planned call and response. I urge everyone to watch the pertinent parts of the hearing that are available in manageable bites on YouTube. Or you could watch the entire farce if you have time. I‘m not sure yet when the Committee will vote on submitting the nomination to the full Senate, but as soon as I’m done with this post, I’ll look up the schedule online. I want to watch the faces of people who may vote for him when in their hearts and minds they must know better.
And now for a positive note. The atrocious heatwave has broken for today, and I for one am extremely grateful. I do have two window air conditioners and can retreat to either of those rooms when necessary. But I much prefer a natural environment when possible. And I just popped out into the rain again to rescue my paper which has been delivered—tied tightly in a plastic bag but it’s always good to grab it before it sits too long in the elements.
So now I’ll have breakfast then sit and read the paper and do my puzzles as I wait to go back into rhythm and for the politicians to meet again. My particular episodes of Afib usually last about 4 hours, but the term paroxysmal means that they terminate spontaneously. Doesn’t everyone love a surprise!

I had a cardiac catherization this morning. The good news is that my coronary arteries are in great shape -- the statins have been doing their job -- which means that the likelihood of a relatively simple trans-arterial procedure to replace that malfunctioning valve has increased. Still have more tests to do. But during the catheterization, they were worried that my heart might go into fibrillation so they put HUGE patches which would be used for de-fib on my back and side -- COLD! Fortunately they were not needed but still had to be removed like anything attached with adhesive -- ouch!
I do not like some surprises. Hope you are well and all is good. I remain in disbelief of the Republicans. To think I was one. We face the Big Beautiful Bill in Congress. We need to let each of our representatives and senators know we oppose a vote for this bill (in any of its forms with the 2017 tax cut). Let them know that you will not ever get over it if they vote for the bill. That last part is important as it directly contradicts what Mitch told them “they will get over it”.
