The first confession I have to make is that I felt a bit obligated to post today, and I never want to feel pressure like that from something I enjoy. I did have a paying assignment that I sent in earlier, and I also am back to walking every morning and including a swim once in a while at our new Recreation Center. All of these are things that take my mind off the other obsession I have which is keeping up with the political horror. I usually manage to keep things balanced, but yesterday I must admit that I became rather depressed and fatalistic as the hits just kept on coming. Thankfully, I was able to watch some other Substackers preaching a mantra of fight, fight, fight, so I perked up at teatime.
And just now I watched my British cardiologist from York, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, walking in the woods near his home as he gave us another discussion of how to stay healthy and centered. I am a fan of technology when it is used for uplifting purposes.
Otherwise, the heat is oppressive and I am now down to one window air conditioner for the moment. The other night when I was running the one in my bedroom, it seemed to be making a rattling noise so in the middle of my sleep I awoke and reached out to smack it (as I have done previously). Well, this time I didn’t know my own strength, because the unit suddenly escaped from the window, split the heavy electrical chord in two, and landed on the grass down below. Luckily my house is a single family so no one was hurt, and I quickly unplugged the ragged chord, slammed the window shut, and went happily back to sleep. Of course, I can purchase another unit and install it (although it may require someone a bit stronger to lift things) but so far I have been coping with the clever solution provided by my darling when he called that morning. He suggested that I leave the unit in the TV room running and keep my bedroom door open to benefit from the cooler air. I actually have a curtain in the hallway that blocks the rest of the house and I can close the bathroom door leaving the passage of air unimpeded. So that’s how I am coping until otherwise remedied.
Lastly, I want to give a big birthday shoutout to my BFF Carol who is having a wonderful week of family and fun. What’s the saying about friends? “Make new friends but keep the old; one is silver, the other is gold.” And that was provided to me from AI on my phone but not Grok, I hope, who has been a very bad boy.

I was at work when this arrived in my mailbox, so replying now on my way home:)
The trials of AC's. I usually wait till the last minute to put mine in- the last minute this year was May I think lol.
I am lucky enough to live between two apts. My own and that of my friend Colette. Hers is the lap of luxury...mine not so much.
In my apt this year I have to choose between the AC and the box fan as if I run both the power goes out and I have to voyage to the basement to flip the breaker switch.
That being said this summer more than ever I am looking forward to my frequent stays at Colettes:)). Looks like another heatwave may be hitting us next week!
We no longer have window units. The dog I adopted had escaped from an earlier adopter by pushing out a window unit and running off. But we have a heat pump with remote wall-mounted units. He has pretty bad separation anxiety and Dr. Joe prescribed the equivalent of Prozac for dogs which helps to keep him calm but he's going to need a higher dose later this month when I have an overnight stay in the hospital as they install a new bioprosthetic heart valve starting in my femoral artery and going up that route.
