My motto used to be, so many men, so little time! But having settled rather comfortably into an unconventional but wonderful love life, I’m now beset by too many words, too little time. I can understand why so many fellow Stackers have taken to posting daily, but I’m trying hard to stick to my twice-a-week schedule. After all, I have to spend the rest of my time reading all of you.
And before I get started on the somewhat negative stuff, I have to report that yesterday’s page-a-day calendar had a great quote from one of us—Wajahat Ali, American writer and public speaker, who is quoted as saying “No matter how much stress or pain or misery I was going through, I made sure to invest time every day, to invest in things and people and experiences that gave me joy.” Thanks, Waj, for THE LEFT HOOK.
Someone I really revere is not on Substack as far as I know, but I have mentioned him before: Dr. Joe Schwarcz CM from the McGill University Office for Science and Society, the motto of which is Separating Sense from Nonsense. A recent Instagram post sent me to the main site for the OSS and there I found the “exclusive videos showing Dr. Joe Mercola’s dangerous ideas whipped up by alleged medium” with the article attributed to Jonathan Jarry M.Sc, science communicator, dated 18 March 2025. It was included under Critical Thinking, Health and Nutrition, and Pseudo Science. In order for you to understand the importance of this story, I have got to quote from the introduction and also to note that I watched the entire video and it is chilling. The author notes that Joe Mercola seems to have been mesmerized by the actual bad actor, one Christopher Johnson. And the most chilling part of it all is that Mercola et al. are influencers of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
Major anti-vaccine and alternative health influencer Joe Mercola has daily Zoom calls with a medium, who goes by the fake name of Kai Clay and claims to be channelling an entity he calls Bahlon. This story was originally revealed by journalist Rick Polito for Natural Products Insider (now called Supply Side Supplement Journal) in February of last year, and his series of articles made mention of video calls between Mercola and Clay. A whistleblower within Mercola’s company has now shared over 200 of these videos with our Office, and I have watched 26 of them.
If you have some time, I strongly suggest watching this video evidence of delusion at work. My source from Instagram is www.mcgill.ca and the story is riveting.
Meanwhile, I read the free February 2025 edition of Imprimis, Volume 54, Number 2, with the title Restoring American Culture (which now cites 6,700,000 readers, up 100,000 from my previous quote of the November 2024 newsletter—you’re welcome). This gives us another chilling look at what some conservative minds have been thinking. The highly educated author of this month’s edition, Roger Kimball, seems to think that the 60’s ruined America, and I have to quote his final thoughts so that you may realize how much work we have to do: “The spectacle of Donald Trump’s boundless energy, and the energy he calls forth from others, is heartening. Among other things, it makes us appreciate how his ‘revolution of common sense’ might not only spark a political restoration, but also a new cultural golden age.” I underlined and annotated this newsletter as I read it the first time, and I ended with OMG in bold caps. [A sidenote to this, the pamphlet says that it is based on a talk given at Hillsdale College’s Blake Center for Faith and Freedom in Somers, Connecticut. The only thing I have ever associated with Somers was a prison where back in the late 60’s some friends and I visited an older man who had been incarcerated there. So of course I had to research both the prison and this Blake Center. Turns out the “supermax” prison was closed in 2021 for lack of inmates. The Blake Center is a beautiful country mansion donated by a wealthy couple. I was oddly relieved to note that the prison had not been turned into this right-wing think tank.]
A final note for today. The latest book to fall from my pile for morning reading is Blind Trust: The True Story of Enid Greene and Joe Waldholtz, expertly written by Lee Benson, copyright 1997. A perfect example of a pasty overweight political operative and the damage he did in the name of love.

Great post, Katharine. I do some supplements but also study them with a microscope. Curcumin supplements are in their 4th generation now. These supplements need to enter the bloodstream, and that is a problem. The curcumin needs a carrier to cross over. was simple pepper, then Peperine (2x), then propriety like CURqLife (47x), now BioCurc (400x). NutriKey has BioCurc. Hard to find.
