Continued Confessions
all about me
I realized this morning that my Thursday title presupposes personal disclosures. I think I may have strayed from that recently what with the drama unfolding on the national stage. But this morning I will recount that I am recovering from the extraction of a nasty infected third molar on Monday. Thank goodness for the detailed directions from the oral surgeon (complemented of course by my own research on line) so I am weathering it. May I just say that I never knew that the tannin in tea can act as a clotting agent. Very glad to have plenty of bags on hand because the wound did not seem to be stopping on its own. The teabags did the trick finally, and ice packs helped the initial swelling. Now I have to switch to warm compresses for the remaining lopsided jaw. The actual procedure that I had been dreading turned out to be much better thanks to the doctor realizing that ordinary numbing doesn’t work on my jaw. He finally used a different technique and miraculously performed the actual extraction almost painlessly. The memory of the pain involved in last year’s extraction of the abutting broken tooth had me dreading this one, and as I said at the time, childbirth was nothing compared to that procedure. Anyway, enough about the teeth. The rest of the oral journey will have to wait until I spend some time on my eyes, which a visit soon has given me some hope that things can be arrested in that department.
I am not going to discuss politics today because I watched the entire Senate Judiciary Committee grilling of Todd Blanche yesterday, and I have another session to look forward to this morning. Experts are to testify today about whether he is fit for the position of Attorney General. Because I spent so much of my life observing government in action as a recording secretary, I find watching these hearings absolutely fascinating. I’m sure you’ve heard by now of the Freudian slip made by the witness when being asked a question by one of his own. But some of the Senators from the current regime managed to express their uncertainty. Let’s see whether the competing experts shed any light on the matter.
Finally, I have to find a getaway sometimes, and I often return to authors that I love. Do you think it’s prophetic that I randomly picked the late great Sue Grafton’s “P is for Peril” as my bedtime read?

Watching congressional hearings while in the throws of post-surgical jaw pain? You must be made of steel.
I’m curious, though. Is there really anything to these Blanche hearings? I mean, is there anything that’s not already known or that needs to be known? I think in some hearings, they function to inform the public, but the public already knows who he is. Those who would support him won’t be swayed by any verbal slip up and those opposed won’t be swayed by a stellar performance. And I doubt, where Blanche is concerned, anyone is undecided. What are you looking for, or is it entertainment? (No judgement on that. Just wondering. It’s all over the news, but at what cost? What’s not being covered?)
I hope you’re feeling better soon. Perhaps Blanche will serve as a good distraction. Tannins assist in clot forming. Who knew?
So sorry to hear about your extraction and sequel. Makes me so glad that I didn't let that dentist in Evanston remove one of my 3rd molars -- I still have them all. And boy howdy I have made tooth care a practice before bed.
