Too much drama on stage for me to be concerned about my own small life. But I did have to get out this morning to refill needed prescriptions. For some reason, I’m unwilling to have the pharmacy deliver, which I guess is me refusing to give up what little power I have left to run things. Anyway, the weather cooperated, and I was able to see well enough to drive the car. One day at a time, as the way of life I have adopted teaches me.
I was hoping to be able to hear the 21-gun salute that the Submarine Base was giving in honor of Jimmy Carter, but perhaps the wind blew the noise the other way. I’m across the river. But our local paper had a nice story about when Jimmy served here, and he spoke of his time fondly. The service in Washington was beautifully done, and now Jimmy can go home to Plains and Roslyn. [The live coverage of the congregation at this morning’s service provided an interesting picture of history with so many former presidents together with the current one and the one to-be.]
The other horrific news about the Los Angeles fires is a bit personal because I have relatives in the area. We’re waiting for details on that front. But speaking of relatives, my cousin from Canada called yesterday to let me know that he has no interest in being taken over by the United States. I was glad to hear from him and to know that he has an extra bedroom just in case.
So that’s about it for me. I’m halfway through Liz Chaney’s book which gives me much greater insight into what a thoughtful and rational person she is. I am thankful that I’m alive and kicking (dancing, even) and that I have a lot of people to commiserate with and plan our continued resistance to becoming an autocracy. It also seems as though there may be some self-destruction in the circus which will work in our favor. Fingers crossed that the Senate manages to stymie some of the clowns.

I have several maintenance meds -- for blood pressure and cholesterol -- and the doc writes each for a 90-day supply with 3 refills. The best service is a pharmacy about 20 miles away and while they will mail them, it's no problem to add that errand to others on a trip to town. And they send me a text when they're filled. Almost painless. And since I prepare a week's worth over the weekend, I can tell when there is less than a week's worth after I fill the boxes so I reorder with the app and in a few days, I get the text. Long before things get to a critical stage. Non-maintenance meds are rare but if one is needed, the local pharmacy 10 minutes away is where they get filled.
Of course I have had more than 10 years to make this system work for me.
The fires in LA are hard to comprehend. Later last night my friend's apt building on hollywood blvd was evacuated. She just left there on Sunday night to return to NYC. Friends there were also evacuated.
